One of my friends and I got into a philosophical debate today.
The situation is as follows:
Imagine your perfect soulmate, if you believe in such a thing. If you don't don't, just imagine the most perfect person that would suit your needs. Every aspect of them is just exactly what you want, and you've magically been informed by the deity you believe in, or you from the future, or Obi Wan's ghost, or whatever, that you could find true happiness with this person, and they will accept you as their eternal love, so long as you accept them as yours.
Now, change one thing -
their gender.Would you be able to roll with it?
If you knew the only truly perfect person for you was the same sex (or opposite if you're gay), would you be able to live with that?
My answer - I think I could. If it means I'd be truly happy, what would it matter if it were a guy or a girl? Happiness is happiness, no?
(I'm not gay. I have never experimented, and I never really plan to. And, seeing as it is impossible to know where true happiness will be found, I'll probably not have this opportunity)
EDIT: After contemplating, I'm not so sure. The debate was picked up a little while ago, and the more I think about it, the more I think I couldn't go through with it.
EDIT EDIT: See The Infamy's reply below.
