I find I enjoy dark or macabre-themed games. I like being a bit scared and/or disturbed during play. I like the rush and the dark atmosphere has always interested and intrigued me. So, here are some of my favorites with a... slightly darker than average nature.

• Bioshock, as seen in my other thread in this section.
• American McGee's Alice, also mentioned somewhere else in this forum. My introduction, maybe? Anyway...
• Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines
• Resident Evil 4
• Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
• The Devil May Cry series (not as scary, and a bit cheesy at times, but you do play as and interact with devils/demons... among other things)

• Doom series
• Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
• Soul Reaver/Legacy of Kain series (they intertwine)
• The Diablo series
• (sure - why not?) Luigi's Mansion

Most definitely!!

I remember playing some vampire game that i loved for the GameCube, but i can't remember what it was called. You had these powers, and you combine elements or something to get a specific power, and you hid in the shadows to feed on people. Pretty boss.

Would we count Luigi's Mansion as a dark game?

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, perhaps? Doesn't ring any other bells.
(EDIT: Well... this wasn't a vampire game... maybe Soul Reaver?)

Wasn't a fan of how they ended it (the end of Legacy of Kain: Defiance).

Half Life, Hl2, and the various Xpacs can be dark and scary, and also TOTALLY FREAKIN ACTION PACKED AND AMAZING.

Fallout is Post Apocalyptic RPG if you like diss.

Fallout 3 was pretty amazing. I guess it could fit the category, what with the zombie dudes, and mutant this and that... sure, I'll add it.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I've actually never played any Half Life game. I've always meant to. I'm sure I could find em' cheap online...

yea they came out with Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil back in i think 2005.

doom was always a great series, i even downloaded the origional doom, the first one which was a bloody maze onto my xbox360 XD whats best is, u can hook it up to XBL LOL

Elder Scrolls series. They all had some demons and dark times in them. Especally Oblivion. An all around great series.
Dead Rising - Probably the funniest zombie game ever.
Left 4 Dead 1+2 - Need i say more?
Condemned: Criminal Origins. One of the first games i got for my 360. This game wrote the definition for dark settings.

I only recently got my 360, so I've still got only a select few for it.
Dead Rising, Oblivion, and Left 4 Dead(s) are already on my to-buy list. I'll be sure to check out those others now, too. Thanks!

Anyone have an opinion regarding the Silent Hill series? I've heard they're good and spooky, but you don't really get to fight, rather just solve puzzles and run away. Confirm?

(Note that I wouldn't mind this, it's just that sometimes you wanna kill some friggin zombies/vampires/demons/monsters, not just run away from em'! )

Half Life 2 is available in The Orange Box for Xbox AND PC, and comes packaged with Portal (awesome) and Team Fortress 2(Also awesome). And you can get HL2 and the xpacs on Steam on your PC for pretty cheap, and the Half Life Anthology (the original and it's like 375367374 xpacs) on Steam too, and it's cheap.
